The SME Fund is a new scheme managed by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and its objective is to financially support SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) that wish to protect their trademarks and designs.

The SME Fund, which is only available throughout the year 2021, consists of a reimbursement of 50% of the application fee incurred by an SME when applying for a trademark or design protection. Such reimbursement is capped at Eur1,500.

To be eligible, the enterprise must fall within the definition of an SME as follows:

The funds allocated to this scheme are granted on a first come first served basis.
